The Spartans hosted their annual football media day at Spartan Stadium Monday.
As expected, all eyes were focused on new starting quarterback Andrew Maxwell who takes over for MSU's winningest QB, Kirk Cousins, who left for the NFL.
Maxwell is no newcomer though, he's been in the program for three years, standing and waiting in the shadows for his shot.
He said his time is now, and with a more-than-capable offensive line in front of him, Maxwell said he can't wait to welcome Boise State to East Lansing at the end of August.
"When you're a backup, and when you know you're not going to have as many opportunities to play on the field, you've got to come to practice everyday like it's your game day," Maxwell told the media Monday. "You've got to recognize every opportunity that you have, especially with a defense like ours, every period's an opportunity to get better. I've taken that approach over three years here, and so have the guys with me on the second team. Now that's it's our time, we can actually put that to use on the field."
