The OHL season ended in Mid-Michigan a couple of weeks ago but there's no rest for the weary if you work in the front office for either the Flint Firebirds or the Saginaw Spirit. The two teams hunkered down in their respective war rooms on Saturday and laid the ground work for the future in the OHL Draft.
The Firebirds had the 10th pick in the 1st round and they also had two 2nd-rounders and two 4th-rounders. In the 1st round they took left winger Ethan Keppen from Whitby, Ontario. Keppen had 14 goals in 33 games with the Toronto National Minor Midget AAA Hockey club last season.
In Saginaw the Spirit had the 4th pick in the first round and they used it on a forward Nicholas Porco. Porco played for the Vaughan Kings last season where he was named the GTHL Midget Player of the Year scoring 41 points in 33 games. He gives the spirit some instant offense with his ability to generate scoring opportunities and his puck handling skills.
