Loons fall to Chiefs in 14 innings

      Josh Vitters hit a two-run home run in the top of the 14th to break a 5-5 tie as the Peoria Chiefs stormed back to beat the Great Lakes Loons 7-5 Saturday night at Dow Diamond.

      It was the second extra-inning game in as many nights for the two Midwest League ball clubs.

      The Chiefs scored two runs in the top of the 8th and the top of the 9th to send the game to extra innings.

      Loons starter Justin Miller struck out six in seven solid innings and did not factor in the final decision.

      Anthony Hatch homered off the scoreboard in left field and finished the night 2-for-6 at the plate.

      The Series finale is set for 3:05 p.m. Sunday at Dow Diamond.
