With a win Saturday over Oakland Community College, Mott would stamp its ticket to the National Junior College Basketball tournament.
Things started off rough for the Bears, who trailed the Raiders 34-29 at the half.
In the second, John Taylor took over the game. He had 41 points total on the day.
Oakland hung around keeping it within three possessions down the stretch, but the Bears hung on for the victory 82-74.
Mott moves on to the National Tournament, and the Bears said they feel they can go all the way.
Taylor talked about his performance post-game:
"I just came out the free throw line attacking the rim," Taylor said. "In the second half my team just told me to go at the gas, so that's what I tried to do in the second half."
"He makes me a lot better coach, but so does Ralph Eason, Walter Davis, Boo Marshall," Head Coach Steve Schmidt said of Taylor. "We're not a one-man team, John's a phenomenal player, but we also have a great team. We showed a lot of resolve, and I am proud of our team."
