The Saginaw Spirit geared up in Sault Ste. Marie on Monday evening to play the Greyhounds at The Essar Centre. The Hounds hoped to get back on track as they played off a loss from the previous night, while the Spirit recorded an 8-3 victory days earlier.
The first period presented many opportunities for both teams but the Spirit struck first. Garret Ross buried the puck high stick side for his 20th goal this season. Assists on his goal were given to Jimmy Lodge and Andrey Alexeev. The Hounds retaliated quickly when Ryan Sproul scored a power play goal assisted by Nick Cousins and Colin Miller. To regain the Spirit lead with his 12th goal this season, Jimmy Lodge put a rebounded puck past Soo goalie Matt Murray. The Greyhounds tied the score once more before the period ended when Ryan Sproul scored his second power play goal of the night, assisted by Michael Schumacher and Nick Cousins. The first period ended with a tied score at two.
Period two saw one goal for each team. Soo right winger Brandon Alderson opened the scoring with a breakaway goal assisted by Nick Cousins to give the Greyhounds their first lead of the night. But their lead was short lived as Spirit left wing Jeremiah Addison fired back and scored his fourth goal of the season, assisted by Dylan Sadowy and Jimmy Lodge. The second period also ended in a tie at three apiece.
Both teams looked to take the lead in the third period, but the Greyhounds managed to generate significant offense. The first goal of the period came off the stick of Ryan Sproul, who scored his third goal for a hat trick. His goal was assisted by David Miller. Next the Soo Captains took over, as Colin Miller redirected a goal in the net high glove side, assisted by David Broll and Darnell Nurse. Feeding off of Millers goal, Brandon Alderson scored his second goal of the night assisted by Nick Cousins and Michael Schumacher. Sergey Tolchinsky buried the final goal of the night, assisted by David Broll and Chris Buonomo. The Soo Greyhounds claimed the victory 7-3.
