      Shalla's four-goal effort lifts Spirit over Spitfires

      The Saginaw Spirit bested division rival the Windsor Spitfires by a score of 5-2 Saturday night at The Dow Event Center of Saginaw, netting two points for a Western Conference high 40 points and 18-5-3-1 record. Winger Josh Shalla earned the game TMs first star honors with four goals in the effort, setting the team record for most goals scored by an individual Spirit player in a single game. Center Vincent Trocheck earned the game TMs second star honors with four assists on the night.The Spirit scored two goals late in the first period. Winger Micky Sartoretto tallied his first goal of the season at 11:16 in the first from center Michael Sgarbossa, and moments later winger Josh Shalla notched a goal at the 15:51 mark from center Vincent Trocheck and winger Garret Ross.Saginaw TMs Shalla would lock in a four goal advantage for the Spirit and earn the hat trick early in the second period. Shalla tallied his twentieth of the season with a short-handed goal from Trocheck at 4:32, then complete the hat trick with a goal from Ross and Trocheck at the 7:53 mark. The Spitfires would mount a comeback attempt later in the frame, starting with a goal from center Eric Locke at 8:33 that saw assists from defensemen Nick Ebert and Craig Duinnick. Spitfires winger Derek Lanoue would move the score to 4-2 with a short-handed, unassisted goal at the 10:58 mark.The Spirit squashed the Spitfires attack and make team history when at 6:07 in the third period Shalla notched his fourth goal of the game from Trocheck. Shalla TMs fourth goal set a team record for most goals scored in a game by an individual Spirit player. The goal, which was assisted by Trocheck for his fourth helper of the night, was short-handed.Spirit goalie Mavric Parks netted 35 saves on 37 shots, earning the game TMs third star honors. Windsor netminder Jack Campbell tallied 31 saves on 36 shots in 46:13 minutes before being pulled in favor of Josh Malecki, who notched 2 saves on 2 shots in 13:47 minutes of action.Get your tickets!
