The Beloit Snappers hit two home runs and three Snappers pitchers combined to shut out the Great Lakes Loons?? offense Monday afternoon with a 3-0 win at Pohlman Field.
Lefty Matt Tomshaw started and limited the Loons to two hits over four innings. Cole Johnson entered next and held Great Lakes to three hits over three innings. Zach Jones finished the game with two scoreless innings, allowing two hits. Johnson (1-1) was credited with the win and Jones notched his first save in his second game with Beloit.
Despite the loss, the Loons finished their Badger State roadtrip 4-2 and have won four consecutive series dating back to their previous homestand.
The Snappers pushed across the first run of the game in the first. Nate Roberts singled to begin the inning. He later scored on a two-out infield single by Drew Leachman.
Then in the second, Kenny Vargas homered, a solo shot to center and his third home run in two games since returning from a 50-game suspension.
Tyler Grimes tacked on Beloit??s final run with a solo shot in the seventh.
Raydel Sanchez (3-5) started for the Loons and surrendered both home runs and all three runs over seven innings to take the loss. His seven innings tied a career high, and his six strikeouts tied a season high.
The Loons (15-15 second half, 49-51 overall) begin a three-game series Wednesday against the Dayton Dragons at Dow Diamond. Game time is 7:05pm ET.
