In an intense playoff-like atmosphere the Spirit triumphed over the Knights by a score of 2-0 utilizing some proficient defense mixed with some quick strike offense.
A well-played fast paced period of defensive hockey by both the Saginaw Spirit and the London Knights led to a scoreless period of hockey, and contributing to the first period shutouts were Jake Patterson in net for the London Knights and Jake Paterson in goal for the Saginaw Spirit.
Saginaw broke the ice when Dylan Sadowy sniped an acrobatic unassisted goal from his knees three minutes into the second period to put the Spirit up 1-0 on the Knights.
At the midway point of the third period Saginaw's Eric Locke turned defense into offense after a superb back check led to an unassisted breakaway backhand goal to put the Spirit up 2-0 on London. The defense along with an impenetrable force in Saginaw's Jake Paterson maintained the lead for the victory and first shutout of the season.
