The Sudbury Wolves visited the Saginaw Spirit at The Dow Event Center Saturday, January 18th and the Spirit took the win with a score of 4-3.
The game began with limited offense, with 9:30 of goalless play, until Kristoff Kontos netted a shorthanded goal from Erick Locke and Brandon Prophet. Thirty seconds later Dylan Sadowy found the back of the net from Luke Cairns and Brandon Prophet creating a two goal lead. The Wolves and the Spirit then got tangled in a 10 minute offensive struggle that leaned towards the Wolves when they scored on an effort by Nick Baptiste from Radek Faksa and Connor Crisp at 19:33.
The second period began with instant Spirit offense, with a goal fired by Eric Locke from Jimmy Lodge 19 seconds in. The Spirit held presence in Wolves territory for the majority of the next seven minutes of play until the Wolves scored through the efforts of Connor Crisp from Nick Baptiste and Radek Faksa at 7:44 closing the gap to one goal. The next 13 minutes showcased excellent defensive play from both teams that brought the period to its close.
The third period went through back and forth play for the first 14 minutes until the Spirit broke through with a goal scored by Jesse Graham from Justin Sefton and Kristoff Kontos. Two minutes later the Wolves fought back with a goal off the stick of Evan de Haan from Dominik Kahun and Mathew Campagna. The Wolves pulled goalie Franky Palazzese with 1:30 remaining in the game without prevail.
