It was automatically assumed that the troubles which plagued Tiger Woods during a forgettable British Open stint would be left far behind overseas, and that belief was reinforced after a nearly-flawless round of golf during Wednesday's Pro-Am.
But as the 51st Buick Open officially kicked off on Thursday morning, Tiger Woods found himself in a very unfamiliar spot on the leaderboard: nowhere near the top.
Woods' one-over 71 has him eight shots off the pace, trailing leader Steve Lowery. The former two-time Buick Open champion recorded four birdies and three bogeys during Thursday's opening round.
