Beecher's Monte Morris makes it official, signs with Iowa State

Beecher's Monte Morris credits his success to his mom who raised him by herself.

Beecher Star Point Guard Monte Morris made it official Tuesday, he's heading to Iowa State next year.

Morris verbally committed back in June, Tuesday he signed on the dotted line in front of dozens of friends, family and teammates at Beecher High School.

Beecher Head Coach Mike Williams got emotional talking about Morris, whom he's known since the 4th grade.

Twenty-plus schools were interested in Morris, who's averaged 19.5 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.5 assists as a junior.

Morris said he picked Iowa State because the Cyclones promised him some "major minutes" his freshman year if he puts the work in.

"I'm a loss for words right now," Morris told the media after he signed his letter of intent. "This is a big accomplishment in my life. It was overwhelming to see my family cry, my coach crying. I just never thought it would end up in a moment like this."

"He told me when he was little that this was his dream and I told him I would help him accomplish it," Williams said. "To see this come to fruition is very rewarding. I tell everyone he's as good a basketball player, but he's an even better person."

Morris helped his Beecher Bucs to a Class C state title last year, now he said he and his teammates can focus on defending that title.
