The state semifinal is familiar territory for Saginaw Swan Valleyâ??they have made the game in three of the last seven seasons.
This year, they are looking to make history.
The Vikings can become the first team in school history to reach the MHSAA Division Four State Championship with a win against Birmingham Detroit Country Day on Saturday, November 17.
â??We wanna be the team that's remembered for making it all the way,â?? senior lineman Mike Silenski said. â??There's a lot of pressure but we have all the talent and work ethic we need.â??
Both the Vikings and Yellowjackets are 10-2 but Country Day boasts a handful of NCAA Division I recruits and already have a state title to its credit.
But Swan Valley believes this is the opportunity of a lifetime â?? one that will leave its mark throughout the community if the Vikings can pull off the win.
â??It establishes them as one of the best teams out of Swan Valley if they can take this one,â?? head coach Ken Bourbina said. â??I think the boys have worked hard this year and it would be a credit if they could make this happen.â??
Swan Valley will take on Country Day at 1:00 pm at Ortonville-Brandon High School.
