Red Wings surprise with unprotected players for NHL Expansion Draft

On Wednesday night, the newest NHL franchise the Vegas Golden Knights will announce their picks in the NHL Expansion Draft. On Sunday, the teams released the players they have made available and protected from being selected. (First and second year players do not need to be protected). Some popular Red Wings are not protected, including Niklas Kronwall, Luke Glendening and Darren Helm. They also chose not to protect goalie Petr Mrazek, who is nine years younger than Jimmy Howard.
