Retired teacher paying it forward
Columbiaville, Mich. —
For Donna Johnson teaching isn't just a job it's part of who she is. Johnson left behind the daily routine and now volunteers at Columbiaville Elementary in Lapeer County several times a week at her leisure.
Johnson helps out third grade teacher Kim Riley.
"She was my mentor, she and I taught together for several years and then when she retired she stayed with me and would come in and volunteer," said Riley.
Kim says Donna is a person who truly does pay it forward.
We surprised Johnson with a $500 check while she was volunteering in Riley's class.
Johnson often spends her own money to buy supplies for the kids. She plans on using the $500 to buy supplies for the class.
