Body found in Gladwin County lake

The Gladwin County Sheriff's Office said the body of Barbara Ogg, 68 of Hay Township, was found in Smallwood Lake Saturday.

GLADWIN COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- Deputies are investigating after a body is found in a northern Michigan lake.

The body was found in Smallwood Lake in Hay Township near the 600 block of East Sun Oil Road around 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

According to the Gladwin County Sheriff's Office, there was a paddleboard near the shoreline with a body attached to it.

When deputies arrived on the scene, they said an orange in color paddleboat could be seen near the west shore of the lake.

Investigators said a rope was trailing from the boat with a deceased human body submerged in the water.

The body has been identified as Barbara Ogg, 68, of Hay Township.

Investigators said Ogg attempted to recover the paddleboat that had drifted into the lake.

Deputies said Ogg then wrapped the rope around her arm to bring the boat back to shore when her waders had filled with water.

Investigators said Ogg was pulled under the water after her life jacket slipped off.

Investigators said it is believed Ogg had been deceased for over a week before her body was found.

At this time, the investigation remains open but investigators said preliminary determination shows the cause of death is accidental drowning.
