Despite the legalization, other groups continue to lobby against the use of recreational marijuana.
"Healthy and Productive Michigan" – which previously lobbied against Proposal 1 – is now helping communities that are opting out of having marijuana businesses, in their neighborhoods.
"A lot of areas in Michigan have already contacted us, several have already chosen to opt out and not have any type of marijuana business in their municipalities in Michigan and we expect that number to be somewhere around 75 percent numbers. That's typically what we see in states that have approved medical marijuana," said Healthy and Productive Michigan President Scott Greenlee.
The choice to opt out comes from the local government.
Currently there's no deadline for municipalities to opt out of having marijuana facilities.
