Hurley honors 'triumphant spirit' of rehabilitation patients
FLINT, Mich. – Hurley Medical Center is also celebrating Rehabilitation Awareness week by honoring eight rehabilitation patients.
These patients were nominated and chosen by Hurley Rehabilitation Services staff and have demonstrated courage, perseverance and a true triumphant spirit.
One of this year's recipients is an occupational therapy student who learned first-hand how important the services are when she was in an accident and suffered traumatic brain injury.
With her hard work and "never give up" attitude, after almost one year, she is ready to head back to school.
We spoke with an administrator at Hurley about what it's like being a part of someone's recovery.
"Some of these people start out at our hospitals, they're very sick for a very long time, they go to our rehab unit, then they go to our outpatient therapy site, and to see that whole journey, and to experience it with them is very rewarding, and today we're celebrating little ones all the way up to some senior citizens, so we take care of all kinds of folks, and every day they inspire us,” said service line administrator Cathy Metz.
Hurley Rehabilitation Services staff members look forward to the yearly tradition of honoring these patients and heroes.
