BAY CITY, Mich. --The Bay County Sheriff’s Office says that they performed a water rescue on Saturday night during the Bay City fireworks grand finale.

The sheriff received multiple calls about an intoxicated man swimming west between Veterans Memorial Bridge and Layfayette Bridge.

The man told the sheriff that he wanted to go home, located on the city’s west side, but Veterans bridge was closed to foot traffic because of the fireworks, and rather than wait for it to reopen, he had tired to swim there.

Deputies took him to a boat launch on the west side and dropped him off there. His name isn’t being released.
