FLINT TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A suspect has been caught after an alleged robbery and kidnapping in Flint Township.

Police were dispatched to the 3300 block of Van Slyke Road between Atherton and Hemphill Roads Friday just after 12:30 p.m. for a reported robbery.

That’s where they found a 75-year-old male victim who reportedly was robbed after visiting a local bank.

While inside the bank, a 19-year-old male suspect entered the victim’s unlocked vehicle and waited for him in the back seat.

When the victim returned to his vehicle, the suspect demanded money and that the victim drive him wherever he wanted to go.

The victim pulled into a busy parking lot full of witnesses, prompting the suspect to flee on foot into nearby woods.

Police say the suspect was caught with the help of numerous agencies, including a Michigan State Police K-9 unit.

He is currently lodged in the Genesee County Jail awaiting charges from the Genesee County Prosecutor’s office.

The victim was not harmed in the incident.
