FLINT-- Marvel Studios broke barriers with 'Black Panther,' a film about an African superhero king, which became last year's number one movie at the box office and the first superhero film nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards. Now, the studio is bringing its first female led hero movie to big screens-- the much anticipated 'Captain Marvel.'
This film is set in 1995 and follows Carol Danvers, a former U.S. Air Force fighter pilot who turns into a mighty hero after her DNA is fused with DNA from a Kree during an accident. She ends up with superhuman strength, energy projection and flight abilities. She joins an elite Kree military team called Starforce and when Earh gets caught in a galactic conflict between two alien worlds, Danvers returns home with questions about her past and her identity.
Brie Larson plays Danvers-- AKA, Captain Marvel. Samuel L. Jackson is, once again, Nick Fury but this story apparently gives viewers a glimpse into his background as it takes place before his eye patch.
The Rotten Tomatoes crowd loves 'Captain Marvel.' It carries an Certified Fresh rating into theaters and is expected to produce the first triple-digit box office opening this year. It definitely gets the Mike's Movie Pick marquee.
Box Office Pro predicts 'Captain Marvel' will fly right to the top with an estimated $175 million opening, waaaaayyyyy ahead of the competition. 'How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World' and 'Tyler Perry's A Madea Family Funeral' are the next closest films predicted to earn $16.4 million and $12.7 million , respectively.
