Woman charged with Chesaning double shooting

SAGINAW COUNTY, Mich. -- An Owosso woman facing multiple charges that could put her behind bars for the rest of her life.

Sherry Mandel is accused of shooting two women Tuesday night on South Front Street in Chesaning.

Mandel faces several charges including two counts of assault with intent to commit murder.

Those living in Chesaning are still shook up over the shooting.

"It's still a safe little town," says one neighbor. "I’ve been here 20 years and nothing like this has ever happened in the 20 years I’ve been here."

Just after 9 p.m. on Tuesday night, gunshots.

"Someone in my mom's house heard one shot," says a neighbor. "They thought it was a firework so they came out and one of the woman was standing here in the driveway."

One of the victims ran to a nearby house for help when a second shot rang out.

"She was like please help she’s shooting us," says a neighbor.

The victims were new to town, only having moved to Chesaning this summer.

Police still are not saying how the victims knew each other.

All three of the women sustained gunshot wounds but Mandel, able to stand before a judge, while the two victims remain in the hospital.

Mandel will be back in court on December 14th.
