MID-MICHIGAN – The American Red Cross will be hosting a series of blood drives around our area to aid victims of Hurricane Florence.

The agency says there are in need of blood and platelets most, but also need financial donations.

In addition to the devastation left in the storm’s aftermath, Florence also caused the cancellation of nearly 200 blood drives scheduled in southern states, adding to the shortage of blood donations.

“Natural disasters like hurricanes can disrupt blood drives and prevent donors from giving, but hospital patients still depend on lifesaving transfusions,” said Cliff Numark, senior vice president, Red Cross Blood Services.

If you would like to help, contact the Red Cross by calling 1-800-RED CROSS or by going to their website.
