Red flag warning issued for heightened fire danger

A Red Flag Warning has been issued for Roscommon, Ogemaw, Iosco, Arenac, and Gladwin counties until 8pm Friday evening.

Highs today will be in the mid 70s with lower humidity around 20-30%.

With strong winds as well the danger exists for any fires to spread easily and quickly.

Although these conditions are not normally at Red Flag levels, the National Weather Service issued one due to the dry conditions and issues yesterday with fires being lit and even a small wildfire that had to be fought.

That wildfire was in Iosco county.

The DNR is asking anyone in the northern portions of the mitten to avoid all burning until conditions improve.

The current DNR Fire Danger Rating for the Mid-Michigan area is currently ranging around Medium to Very High.

Abnormally dry conditions remain in the Thumb and portions of the Saginaw Bay region.

Dry conditions will likely worsen through next week as we remain dry with measurable rain not likely until Thursday.

Stay with the NBC25/FOX66 StormReady weather team for updates on our conditions.
