Saginaw Valley State University baseball team signs five-year-old boy
UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich - Saginaw Valley State University head baseball coach Chris Ebright introduced 5-year-old James People's as the newest and youngest member of the baseball team.
James suffers from neuroblastoma, which is a type of cancer.
"He has already had eight cycles of chemo, two stem cell transplants, twelve cycles of radiation and he still has antibody therapy to go, " said James mother Sheree Peoples.
Saginaw Valley State University teamed up with the nonprofit TEAM IMPACT to help make James and SVSU together.
Team Impact is hoping to bring together children and teams in every college in the United States.
James may look small and shy but SVSU junior catcher Z Westley says he is a fighter who inspires everyone he meets, "just to see the way he is fighting, his strength and courage, he is an inspiration to all of us," said Westley.
Coach Ebright says James will attend games, practices, dinners and events.
For SVSU and Peoples this is a long term relationship that won't end with the last pitch of the season.
