Special Report: Controversy in the Wind

Wind turbines in Tuscola County.

Wind turbines are popping up all over mid-Michigan. The push for alternative energy includes using wind off the Saginaw Bay to generate energy.

Nextera Energy has constructed 75 turbines which they say can generate enough to power 50,000 homes.

Opponents say that the citizens in communities with the turbines are left with no monetary compensation. There are also, they say, issues with noise and flickering shadows from the spinning turbines.

Tonight on NBC25 News at 11 watch as reporter Brett Dickie explores both sides of this issue. He speaks with experts as well as those living near the turbines.

You can also watch extended interviews with the experts online. Kevon Martis, the director of the Interstate Informed Citizens Coalition on one side. The other is covered by Thomas Rohrer, the director of the Great Lakes Sustainable Systems Initiative at Central Michigan University.
