Suspect caught in Saginaw robbery, severe beating

SAGINAW, Mich.--The Saginaw Police Department has made an arrest in the severe beating of a 65-year-old woman.

A tip came in to Saginaw police from who saw the video (below) of the suspect on social media and TV news reports.

As a result, a quick arrest was made by Saginaw police and the Michigan Department of Corrections.

The robbery and beating incident took place on Tuesday, Feb. 6 at 100 South Jefferson Street, Suite 401.

Police say she had to be airlifted to a hospital in Ann Arbor due to her injuries.

The woman told police that she was attacked from behind, and that the suspect took her purse.

Police found her purse in a dumpster not far from where the incident took place.

Police also found a jacket that had blood on it in the dumpster as well.

The the video footage was from a Saginaw hospital where police believe the suspect went following the assault.

Police say the video released from the incident was shared over 1,100 times and reached over 45,000 people.

The Saginaw County Prosecutors Office will be reviewing the case with our Detectives with anticipated charges following.

His name has not yet been released.
