TITTABAWASSEE TOWNSHIP, Mich-- For the last 15 years prisoners in good standing at Saginaw Correctional Facility have been allowed to knit, sew and crochet.

The knitting and sewing program is made possible through donations of fabric and yarn from the community.

Seventy-three-year-old Prisoner Melvin Gunn is the longest member of the program and one of it's leaders.

"We remember when we were kids and how we would have to steal gloves to stay warm, we hope by doing this we save a kid from ending up in here," said Gunn.

Last year inmates made more the 3,000 items to give back to local shelters and schools.
