Saginaw, Mich-- The Mid Michigan Waste Authority is teaming up with the Can Council for the third year to help you get rid of those old Christmas lights and at the same time help a good cause.

The MMWA Holiday Light Recycle Drive runs until January 15th. There are several drop off spots throughout Saginaw and Gratiot counties . So far the waste authority has saved more than three tons of lights from being put into landfills. The recycled lights are scrapped for metal and the proceeds go to the Can Council that protects abused and neglected children.

"This not only helps us to raise funds, but awareness. Having the MMWA talking about child abuse while recycling is such a gift in addition to the dollars they raise," said Can Council President, Suzanne Greenberg.
