OWOSSO, Mich.,- Shiawassee County Central Dispatch has unveiled its brand new 911 call center and the NBC25/FOX66 morning crew got and inside look.

The new center is located in Owosso inside of the old Red Cross building. The upgraded technology was part of a five year budgeting plan approved by the Shiawassee County Central Dispatch Board.

The upgrades include a new Next Generation 911 telephone system , network and Smart 911 system that allows residents to put in their medical information . Workers say the changes will cut down lost calls and improve their services greatly.

"This is huge for us. This allows us to work more efficiently. This is the first time the county has had a call center like this. We are beyond excited," said Lt. Pam Battinkoff.

The staff hopes to one day provide video calling and text to 911 capabilities in the near future thanks to their new network options.
