Sheriff: Two men removed license plate, ran from crash scene

LEELANAU COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- Two men are being investigated for leaving the scene of a single roll-over crash Wednesday evening.

According to Leelanau County Sheriff's Deputies, a vehicle was traveling eastbound on Putnam Road when it left the roadway and rolled near Peshawbestown Road in Suttons Bay Township.

The two people in the vehicle got out, removed the license plate and ran from the scene, deputies said.

When deputies got to the scene just after 8 p.m. Wednesday, they found the vehicle on its roof in a field.

A witness told deputies they saw two men running from the crash scene.

An investigation led deputies to a home on South Herman Road where they interviewed a 21-year-old man and a 22-year-old man.

Deputies identified both men as suspects.

Deputies said alcohol and speed appear to be factors in the crash.

The crash is still under investigation and a report will be forwarded to the prosecutor's office for possible charges.
