Mt Pleasant's newest pro Obie Ricumstrict gets offer he can't refuse from Texas
The Texas Rangers have very high hopes for Obie Ricumstrict. The franchise took the Mt Pleasant product in the 11th round of the MLB Draft on Wednesday, but regarded him much more highly than that. After making several trips to Mt Pleasant for practices and games, they seemed to know something the rest of the major leagues didn't, first telling Obie on Tuesday they'd draft him on Wednesday. Then, instead of an 11th round signing bonus, they'll give him a 3rd round pick signing bonus, and will pay for his college education if baseball doesn't pan out. So, instead of going to the University of Cincinnati in the fall, where he originally committed, Obie has chosen to start his professional career as soon as possible with the Texas Rangers.
Obie reports to Arizona on Monday to begin his professional baseball career.
